Our Year 7 football team have reached the Cleveland County Cup Final

The boys showed great character having lost their previous two games to Garforth (Leeds) in Round 7 of the National Cup and to local rivals English Martyrs in the semi-final of the Durham County Cup.This was their fourteenth win of an impressive season so far.

Dyke House dominated the first half on a full size pitch despite at this age only playing 9aside. Max Croft stooped to head in the opening goal from a Gene Steels cross and just two minutes later the lead was doubled. A bursting run by Frankie Coulson from his own half skipping past three players before unleashing a shot from 20 yards that flew into the top corner.Coulson was linking up superbly with captain Ollie Duthie and it was Duthie who released Coulson to slot past the keeper with just fifteen minutes on the clock. The fourth goal was a deserved reward for Codie Young who was putting in a disciplined and intelligent performance on the right hand side. Coulson drove forward and released Young who hit a quality shot cross past the keeper and into the far corner. Coulson almost became the fifth different play this year to score a hat-trick but he was tackled just as he was about to slot home following a great ball by Steels.

Both teams made changes in the second half and it was credit to Egglescliffe who dominated most of the half. They played a more attacking formation by gambling with leaving spaces and the pushed back Dyke House and scored two to make the game a little tense with ten minutes to go. Dyke House did not keep the ball as well in the second period and could not find the right pass when opportunities to break were available. However, the back three of Stevie Weldrake, Kian Evans and Thomas Rowbotham made some important blocks along with two very good saves from Alex Griffin.

The final will be played at Trinity Catholic College, Middlesbrough on Monday 1st April (5pm) against either UCA, High Tunstall or Nunthorpe. The team also have the Hartlepool Schools FA Town Cup semi final against High Tunstall (away) still to fit in before the Easter break.
